Guardian of Eden by Kate Raudenbush at NMA
Reno's
Nevada Museum of Art
is the first US art museum to purchase a Burning Man sculpture for their permanent collection.
Following its debut at the 2007 Burning Man festival, the NMA purchased and displayed Guardian of Eden, a large-scale, outdoor
sculpture by New York-based artist
Kate Raudenbush
.
The intricately carved, 12-petal lotus flower spans over 19 feet in diameter and is inspired by Hindu and Egyptian creation myths,
Buddhist symbolism, and the ancient symbol of the Flower of Life.
The sculpture will be installed this fall in the Wilbur D. May
Sculpture Plaza.
Guardian of Eden was commissioned by the
Burning Man
organization and the NMA thanks
Burning Man
for their support.
